GRUDGE
BRAKE AND YOU LOSE
A grudge race is the one you arrange on the street: no entry fee, no trophy. And a grudge is the debt you do not forget. Here they are the same thing. Nobody races for the cup. They race for the corner, for the name, for what is owed.
Six drivers, one port city, and one rule: hitting people is not a mistake, it is half the game. Ram someone's nose and you damage them and fill your RAGE bar. Take one in the side or the tail and you lose BODY. When a car is low it smokes, then it burns, and whoever finishes it gets a FINISHER with their name on it.
Tracks
THE STRIP, a motorway at the hour with no cops. THE MARKET, a street with the stalls still up. THE HILL, a mine road with no guardrail. THE DOCKS, raced between the container stacks. And THE CRATER, with a loop somebody built on a bet. Three arenas as well: THE STADIUM, THE BLOCKS and DOWNTOWN.
Modes
Championship, quick race, stadium derby, and online play from one browser to another. The arenas have their own modes: DERBY, last one still running; THE PARCEL, hold it for forty seconds while everyone can see you; THE RUN, twelve markers through the streets in order.
Controls
Arrows or WASD to drive. H swings the bar out the window at whoever is alongside. Space for nitro, J to fire, K for the special, R to get unstuck. Gamepad and touch are supported. Nothing is bound to CTRL, on purpose: those are the browser's shortcuts and a game that asks for them closes itself.
Language
English and Spanish. You pick it in OPTIONS.
How it is made
Zero assets. No images, no models, no audio files, no libraries, no build step. Every car, every face, every track, every texture and every sound is generated by code when the page loads, in about nine thousand lines of JavaScript on a hand-written WebGL renderer. The whole game is under 200 KB.
